Topic Introduction

The project ask to depict a visualization to showcase an argumentative dataset side by side. The argumentative data should showcase a view which is conflicted in globally. In the US, one of the most debatable topics is police fatal shooting against races. The example can be seen most prominently during George Floyd's case. In the US, mostly it is considered as black people are more subject to police racial violence compared to other races and most prominently the white people is some case and vice versa in other states. To argument this situation, plotting this data makes sense to see what races are more vulnerable to police shooting in each state so that it can further answer question like which states have high rate of police shooting and then on broader scope which coast police is more racially lethal. Initially only the black and white races are compared, moreover all the races can be plotted and compared for argumentation using the visualization.

Moreover, talking about rhetoric technique used in visualization is based on the paper section of Mapping America Visualization in which a US map or a part of US map is used to visualize data along with techniques like data provenance is Provenance Rhetoric. Here, the annotation layer for data provenance is provided on hovering a state. The annotation is the comparative view of two states shooting rate in that year.

Left Chart

The left chart shows the US states. On each state, the plot corresponds to number of fatal shooting incidents occurred in the selected year. Darker the color of the state larger the police shooting incidents. The data is for a specific race by default black. (Dropdown as an additional feature is provided to select different race)

Right Chart

The right chart shows the US states. On each state, the plot corresponds to number of fatal shooting incidents occurred in the selected year. Darker the color of the state larger the police shooting incidents. The data is for a specific race by default White. (Dropdown as an additional feature is provided to select different race)
